Beyond the Roles I Carry
For most of my life, my identity has been defined by the people I cherish. I am a mom, a grandma, a sister, and an aunt. Being a caregiver for family and watching my loved ones grow has been one of the greatest blessings of my life.
Yet recently, I’ve found myself navigating a quiet midlife transition and asking an important question: Who am I outside of the roles I’ve spent my life fulfilling?
The truth is, underneath every role I play, I am still a person with my own personal goals and dreams. I have creative projects I want to explore, skills I want to learn, and experiences I want to embrace. I have a life I still want to live—and I’m learning that wanting something for myself isn’t selfish. It is an essential part of rediscovering yourself.
The Difference Between Loving Others and Losing Yourself
So many of us are raised with a mindset that being a good person means putting everyone else first. We become the anchors everyone depends on, but somewhere along the way, it’s easy to slip into caregiver burnout and lose pieces of who we are.
There is a profound difference between being selfish and practicing healthy self-care:
- Selfishness says: “Only my needs matter.”
- Self-love says: “My needs matter, too.”
Choosing self-love and setting boundaries doesn’t mean walking away from the people you care about; it means making room for your own growth. The people who truly love us don’t need us to disappear into the background—they want to see us vibrant, fulfilled, and stepping into our own personal growth.

Giving Myself Permission to Dream
For the first time in a long time, I am giving myself permission to embrace self-discovery.
That means stepping into my power as a female content creator, sharing my gaming adventures with a vibrant community, building my businesses, and crafting beautiful things with my hands. My creative passions, my gaming journey, and my personal goals aren’t distractions—they are all vital chapters of the exact same story.
I am not abandoning my loved ones. I am simply inviting myself back into my own life.
A New Chapter Begins
This season isn’t about starting over from scratch. It’s about stepping into a new chapter of life that has been waiting for me all along.
I will always be a mom, a grandma, a sister, and an aunt. But today, I am also claiming the rest of my identity: a woman with dreams, a creator, an artist, a storyteller, and a person who matters.
Questions for Reflection
- Reflect: What parts of yourself have you set aside while caring for others?
- Uncover: What forgotten passions or dreams have you been hesitant to pursue?
- Act: What is one small act of self-care you can do this week just for you?

Closing Thought
As you step into this new week, give yourself the same grace, patience, and love that you so freely give to everyone else. Your journey of self-discovery doesn’t have to happen all at once—it starts with small, daily choices to honor who you are.
As you go about your day, take care, be well, and remember to live every day life “very simple”
